This insertion tool is designed around an automatic center punch and provides a way to consistently insert a projectile into the Ram-Shell base with approximately the same force.
Since there can be very minor variations even between projectiles of the same batch and also minor variations between hulls due to wear or manufacturing tolerances,
getting the most consistent discharge behavior requires that the projectiles have similar friction relative to the hull. Inserting the projectile too far (using excessive force) can cause
the hull to tear and rupture when the gases expand. To best prevent this and at the same time maintain a consistent insertion force, use of this economical constant-force insertion tool is recommended.
The tool allows a spring force to be built up until a threshold is met at which point an internal mechanism disengages which provides tactile and audible feedback that the limit
has been met, similar to how a torque wrench operates. Each unit is factory preset to excert approximately 10lb of force (calibrated in the range of 5-10lb +/- 1 lb) and does so consistently.
The goal is to have the same force applied each time, not an exact value.
